SocketAPI is a communication protocol for use between a print spooler and a printer. HP
JetDirect products implement this protocol. A good description of it can be found the the Lprng documentation at
http://www.lprng.com/LPRng-HOWTO-Multipart/socketapi.htm.
PPR offers three interface programs (for rather three names for the same interface program) which implement this protocol:
- tcpip
- the original name
- socketapi
- the currently prefered name
- jetdirect
- same as the above programs except that SNMP support is enabled
