Yes, parsing the text output from the printer is not only subject to a good
number of (unknown) locales
but also to firmware revisions. Is there a HP (or other) document
describing the possible error codes
of their printers ? I've looked at the HP web site for technical info such
as control codes and errorcodes but so far I could not find this
documentation. Also at home I have an Office Jet that can scan and print
and I would like to get hold of the technical information regarding the
software interface.

I'm interested, please do send the patch. Although please notice that I
will be on vacation by the end of
this week for about one week and a half.
