The next alpha release will contain one that is at least somewhat useful. Not allof it is pretty, but it does allow queue monitoring, canceling jobs, adding printers, starting and stopping printers, and chaning printer settings. One of the main remaining problems is access control. Right now I am using TCP Wrappers to limit access to a few management stations. There is also a Perl/TK GUI called "printdesk". This too is in the PPR distribution. It only supports printer and job control, it doesn't support printer setup. It also may have a few bugs. For the time being, I am not working on it but am working on the WWW interface instead. >SPEED >Also, I am replacing an aging DOS based (PSERVE, by COPS) Print Spooler >with PPR, and seeing much slower speed in accepting jobs in from the >Macintosh clients. I see a slowdown both in real >tests, and with Helios Lantest Why are you using the "font query = off" setting? This option should produce a speed degredation. This option only exists because some people are using "ppdopts = -H transparent". I don't know why PPR would be slow when accepting jobs. What operating system and AppleTalk program are you using? Just how slow is it? During what operation is the long delay occuring? ================================================================ David Chappell David.Chappell@Mail.Trincoll.Edu Computing Center PostMaster@Mail.Trincoll.Edu Trinity College (860) 297-2114 Hartford, Connecticut 06106
