This file contains a history of changes to the PPR documentation which occured
after the documentation was moved into the PPR source tree on 12 November 1998.


1.40a4, 12 November 1998--12 November 1998

* Moved documentation into the PPR source tree.

* Changed docs Makefile so that it installs the Troff man pages and HTML
  man pages and the HTML versions of the SGML documents in $(SHAREDIR)/man
  and $(SHAREDIR)/htmldocs.

* Moved fontsub.5.pod back into pprdoc.sgml.  This was done because the font
  substitute file is not considered something that ordinary system
  administrators are likely to modify.

* Moved TODO.txt into this file.

* Created fix_figures, a Perl script which fixes the output of sgml2html so
  that figures work correctly as GIF files.


1.40a5, 23 November 1998--18 February 1999.

* Updated "Acknowledgements" section of pprinst.

* Described new [default destinations] section of uprint.conf

* Rewrote section of pprinst.sgml which discussed submitting jobs in order
  to emphasize the use of switchsets as the perfered method of setting options.

* Fixed pprinst.sgml to reflect ppad show changes.

* Added --nocreate to ppr2samba(8).

* Added advice on setting inetd to allow many lprsrv connexions per minute.

* Added another example of uprint-remote.conf wildcards.


1.40a6, 7 April 1999--22 July 1999

* Fixed unclosed subheadings.

* Removed the lw-messages.conf.5.pod file because it was out of date and there
  is more up-to-date documentation in the file itself.

* Clarified the explaination of the BarBarLang parameter to an interface
  program as explained in pprdoc.sgml.

* Removed references to the Xerox job ticketing driver from ppr2samba.8.pod.

* Changed documentation to reflect the change of the client interface's name
  to clispool.  Also added a little more explaination of what it is for and
  noted that it has not been tested recently.

* Moved mfmodes.conf.5.pod into pprdoc.sgml.

* Added documentation for new interfaces, including parallel which was somehow
  omitted from the 1.32 documentation.

* Documented the uniprint= parameter of the gs* interfaces.

* Added preliminary documentation for ppr --cache-store, --strip-cache,
  --strip-fontindex, --strip-printer, and --cache-priority.

* Added documentation for --routing (previously only -i), -R routing,
  and -R ignore-routing.

* Described changes to ppr2samba.

* Described "ppad pageslimit".

* Removed the ppr(1) FILES section because it wasn't complete and didn't
  seem very useful anyway.

* Removed the ppad(8) FILES section.  It had pre-1.00 information!

* Fixed some formatting problems in ppad.8.pod and added a section for
  the "ppad alias" commands.


1.40a7, 26 July 1999--10 August 1999

* Updated -H editps and --strip-printer defaults.

* Updated documentation to reflect changed file locations.


1.40a8, 11 August 1999--15 December 1999

* Described uprint-remote.conf failover.

* Did work on ppr-fontindex.8.pod.

* Added a brief mention of the new experimental lpr interface options.

* Fixed some errors in index.html.

* Fleshed out the "ppad alias" documentation a little.

* Divided the documenation directory into multiple directories, both in the
  source and in the web space.

* Divided index.html into multiple index.html files in the various
  documentation directories.

* Started converting the man pages into a "Reference Manual".

* Dropt UPRINT.1.man from the list of files installed as man pages since it
  is not realy a man page at all.

* Removed "PassThru types:" from the sample "ppad show" output and re-ordered
  the lines the reflect changes to the command's actual output in
  pprinst/pprinst.sgml.

* Added descriptions of the "ppad addon", "ppad group addon",
  and "ppad alias addon" commands.  Also added a reference to them to the
  ppr2samba documentation.


1.40b1, 15 December--26 January 2000

* Added documentation for new "ppop qquery" fields and fixed documentation
  for those that were renamed.

* Added place-holder documenation for the new "ppop modify" command.

* Documented "ppr --proxy-for".

* Fixed "clean" target in docs/pprdoc/Makefile so it does not remove .gif
  files.  That was a mistake.

* Clarified the ppop --proxy-for documentation a little.

* Clarified the uprint-lprm page.

* Edited the "ppad switchset" and lprsrv documentation to talk about the
  inadvisablility of putting "-m" in a switchset and to give a gimmer of
  information about when lprsrv will override switchset options.


1.41a1, 23 February 2000--18 July 2000

* Clarified the "ppad flags" and "ppr -b" and "ppr -t" descriptions in the
  reference manual.

* Added reference to PPR_RESPONDER_OPTIONS to ppr --responder-options section
  of ppr.1.pod.


1.41b1, 18 July 2000--1 August 2000

* Fixed pprdoc.sgml to reflect the fact that the default medium is no longer
  a compile-time option but is now controled by ppr.conf.


1.41b2, 20 September 2000--13 December 2000

* Split this file into docs_history.txt and docs_todo.txt.

* Brought misc/index.html up-to-date.

* Renamed docs/misc/ppr-1.41.lsm to ppr.lsm.

* Renamed docs/misc/po_README.txt to internationalization.txt and
  misc_README.txt to misc_dir_contents.txt.

* Documented new "ppad limitpages", and "ppad limitkilobytes", noted that
  "ppad pageslimit" has been removed.

* Documented new "ppr2samba-prototype:" line and cleaned up the ppr2samba(8)
  man page.

* Fixed all references to "/usr/ppr" in the man pages to refer to the new
  locations.

* refman/ppad.8.pod: removed references to setting lists to "none".

* Minor changes for 1.41 release.


1.42, 5 January 2001--30 January 2001

* Removed docs/rfc/index.html, moving its links into docs/index.html.

* Added links to specific Adobe Documents to docs/index.html.

* Noted that "ppop mount" can now unmount bins.


1.43, 1 February 2001--28 March 2001

* Moved Uprint documentation from refman/ to uprint/.

* Added RFCs for SNMP, MD5, and form-based upload.

* Added links to the PPR home page and FAQ to index.html at the top level of
  the documentation.


1.44b1, 28 March 2001--7 May 2001

* Added documentation for new "ppop last" command.

* Removed RFCs 1155, 1157, and 1213 (all about SNMP) since they contain
  little revelant information.  Added the draft of the Printer MIB.

* Removed all RFCs from the distribution and replaced with links to
  www.ietf.org.

* Converted pprdoc/ and pprinst/ to Docbook.  Olivier Tharan assisted
  with this.

* Added documentation for the 16th, 17th, and 18th fields of printlog.

* Fixed makefiles to format with Docubook tools.

* Switched images from GIF to PNG.

* Added PS and PDF versions of pprinst and pprdoc.

* refman/ppad-interface.8.pod: new "snmp_status_interval=" option for the
  tcpip interface.

* Noted that ppr --commentary and --commentator* are slated for removal in
  PPR 1.50.

* pprhack/: Split out hacker's guide.

* pprinst/pprinst.sgml: removed instructions for ps and kill and replaced
  them with pprd --stop and papsrv --stop.

* misc/release_steps.html: added CVS information and hyperlinked URLs.

* rules.mk: Added "-" in front of $(JADE) so that the output won't
  be deleted just because some cross references didn't match up.

* index.html: fixed broken link the pprhack.

* refman/ppr.1.pod: removed references to --commentator, --commentator-address,
  and --commentator-options.

* refman/lprsrv.8.pod: Added section on Xinetd, updated Inetd section to
  reflect the fact that fixup puts in a commented out config line which

1.50, 22 January 2003--14 February 2003.

* misc/PORTING.txt: changed references to makeprogs/global.mk to
  Makefile.conf.

* Converted all SGML DocBook files to XML (though they still have an .xml
  extension), added a link rule to the makefiles, removed rules for building
  PostScript and PDF with TeX and substituted rules for building them with
  HTMLDOC.

* catalog, refman/pod2docbook.xsl: added

* ppdoc.sh: added section headings to no-arguments help output.

* index.html: added link to Mozilla prefetching documentation.

* misc/INSTALL.txt: added download URLs for Gzip, GCC, Perl, GDBM, and TDB.

  --print-id-to-fd, --question, and --save (noting that the backend code is missing).

  instead of the command-line interface.  Many screenshots are included.
